Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Sistem Informasi dan Teknik Informatika (JAFOTIK) is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, and accountability in the attribution of authorship. Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript, rather than professional position, seniority, financial support, or administrative involvement.

1. Criteria for Authorship

To be recognized as an author of a manuscript submitted to JAFOTIK, an individual must meet all of the following four criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Make a significant contribution to the conception or design of the research, the development of the methodology, data collection, software development, data analysis, interpretation of results, or other essential aspects of the research.

  2. Manuscript Preparation: Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Review and approve the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.

  4. Accountability: Agree to be accountable for their own contributions and to help ensure that any questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals listed as authors must satisfy these criteria. Each author should be able to identify their own contributions and understand the contributions of their co-authors.

2. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Contributions that do not independently qualify an individual for authorship include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing funding or financial support without making a substantial intellectual contribution.

  • Providing general supervision, administrative assistance, or institutional support.

  • Offering routine technical assistance, data entry, or data collection without meaningful involvement in the research design, analysis, or interpretation.

  • Providing language editing, proofreading, translation, or manuscript formatting.

  • Holding an academic or professional position without meeting the authorship criteria.

Individuals who have made valuable contributions but do not meet all four authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section, with their permission.

3. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between JAFOTIK and the authors throughout the submission, peer-review, and publication processes. The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.

  2. Obtaining approval from all authors for the submitted manuscript and its final version.

  3. Providing accurate information about author names, affiliations, and contact details.

  4. Communicating editorial decisions, reviewer comments, and revision requirements to all co-authors.

  5. Disclosing relevant funding sources, conflicts of interest, and other information required by the journal.

  6. Ensuring that the author list and the order of authors have been agreed upon by all contributors before submission.

The corresponding author must not include individuals who do not qualify for authorship or exclude individuals who have made qualifying contributions.

4. Author Order and Changes in Authorship

The order of authors should be determined collectively by the authors based on their respective contributions and mutual agreement before manuscript submission.

Any request to add or remove an author, change the order of authors, or modify authorship details after submission must be accompanied by a clear explanation and written consent from all affected authors. Such changes are subject to approval by the editorial team.

JAFOTIK reserves the right to request additional information or documentation when authorship concerns arise. Changes to authorship will not be approved automatically and must be justified in accordance with publication ethics principles.

5. Unethical Authorship Practices

JAFOTIK does not permit unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Gift Authorship: Listing an individual as an author despite their failure to meet the authorship criteria, often because of seniority, position, or personal relationships.

  • Guest Authorship: Including an individual's name to increase the manuscript's credibility or publication prospects without a qualifying contribution.

  • Ghost Authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a substantial qualifying contribution to the research or manuscript.

  • Purchased Authorship: Buying, selling, or exchanging authorship positions or adding names in return for payment or other improper benefits.

  • Misrepresentation of Contributions: Providing false or misleading information about an individual's role in the research.

If suspected authorship misconduct is identified, JAFOTIK may request clarification, investigate the matter, suspend the editorial process, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume the responsibilities and accountability required of human authors.

Authors who use AI tools for manuscript preparation, coding assistance, data analysis, translation, or other research-related activities must ensure that the use of such tools is appropriate, transparent, and consistent with the journal's applicable policies. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of the submitted work.

AI tools must not replace the authors' responsibility for verifying references, checking factual claims, protecting confidential information, and ensuring that the manuscript complies with ethical research standards.

7. Authorship Disputes

Any dispute concerning authorship, author order, or individual contributions should first be addressed by the authors and their affiliated institutions, where appropriate. JAFOTIK may request written statements or supporting documentation from the parties involved.

The editorial team will handle authorship concerns impartially and in accordance with applicable publication ethics principles. Where necessary, the journal may seek guidance from the relevant institutions or follow recommendations from recognized publication ethics organizations.

8. Declaration of Authorship

By submitting a manuscript to JAFOTIK, the corresponding author confirms that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria, have approved the submitted version, and agree to the submission. All authors share responsibility for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the published work.

JAFOTIK expects all authors to uphold the principles of honesty, transparency, accountability, and responsible research conduct throughout the publication process.
