Copyright And License

The Journal of Computer Science Application and Engineering (JOSAPEN) is committed to protecting authors' copyright while promoting the broad dissemination, accessibility, and reuse of scholarly research. This policy defines the rights and responsibilities of authors, the journal, and readers regarding copyright ownership, licensing, publication, and reuse of published articles.

By submitting a manuscript to JOSAPEN, authors acknowledge and agree to the journal's copyright and licensing policy. A separate signed copyright transfer agreement is not required unless specifically requested by the journal. Submission does not constitute a transfer of copyright ownership to the journal.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain the copyright and other applicable intellectual property rights to their published articles. JOSAPEN does not require authors to transfer copyright ownership to the journal.

By submitting a manuscript and, if accepted, authorizing its publication, authors grant JOSAPEN a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, preserve, and make the article publicly available in electronic and other publication formats. This permission enables the journal to publish and disseminate the work while allowing authors to retain ownership of their copyright.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that they have the legal authority to grant these publication rights and that the manuscript does not infringe the copyright or other rights of third parties.

2. License

Unless otherwise indicated, all articles published in JOSAPEN are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Under this license, users are permitted to:

  • Share: Copy, redistribute, and reproduce the published material in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes.

  • Adapt: Remix, transform, translate, modify, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial purposes.

These permissions are subject to the following conditions:

  • Attribution: Users must give appropriate credit to the original author(s), acknowledge the source of publication in JOSAPEN, provide a link to the license, and indicate whether changes have been made.

  • ShareAlike: If users remix, transform, or build upon the material, they must distribute their contributions under the same or a compatible Creative Commons license, as permitted by CC BY-SA 4.0.

  • No additional restrictions: Users must not impose additional legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the license.

The license does not imply endorsement by the authors or JOSAPEN of any subsequent use or adaptation. Rights not covered by the license, including certain third-party, privacy, publicity, and other applicable rights, may require separate permission.

3. Authors' Warranties and Responsibilities

By submitting a manuscript to JOSAPEN, the authors warrant that:

  1. The manuscript is their original work, except for material properly cited, quoted, or otherwise acknowledged.

  2. The manuscript has not been published previously and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal or publication, except where explicitly permitted by JOSAPEN's policies.

  3. All listed authors have made appropriate contributions to the work, meet the journal's authorship criteria, and have approved the final version of the manuscript and its submission.

  4. The manuscript does not knowingly infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or other legal rights of any individual or organization.

  5. All third-party material, including figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, datasets, software, and substantial quotations, has been properly attributed and the necessary permissions have been obtained where required.

  6. All data, methods, results, and references are reported accurately and honestly, in accordance with applicable research and publication ethics standards.

  7. Any relevant funding sources, conflicts of interest, and other required declarations have been disclosed to the journal.

  8. They have the authority to grant JOSAPEN the publication rights specified in this policy, subject to any applicable institutional, employment, funding, or third-party obligations.

Authors are responsible for resolving any legitimate claims concerning their work and cooperating with the journal in investigating potential copyright or publication ethics violations.

4. Rights of Authors

Because authors retain copyright ownership, they may exercise their rights in accordance with applicable law, the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and any other valid agreements or obligations.

These rights include, but are not limited to:

  • Using the content of their articles in future research, lectures, teaching materials, books, presentations, and other scholarly works.

  • Reproducing and distributing their published articles for personal, academic, educational, and research purposes.

  • Depositing the published version of their articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, or other scholarly platforms.

  • Sharing their articles through academic networks, professional websites, and other communication channels.

  • Translating, adapting, or incorporating their work into subsequent publications, subject to the applicable license and proper acknowledgment of the original publication.

  • Entering into separate agreements for the non-exclusive distribution or reuse of their published articles, provided that such agreements do not conflict with the rights already granted to JOSAPEN or the applicable Creative Commons license.

When republishing or reusing their articles, authors should acknowledge the article's original publication in JOSAPEN and provide the appropriate citation and license information.

5. Rights of Readers and the Public

JOSAPEN supports the dissemination of scholarly knowledge through open access. Readers may access, download, read, print, share, and reuse published articles without subscription fees, subject to the terms of the applicable license.

Under CC BY-SA 4.0, users may redistribute and adapt published material, including for commercial purposes, provided that they comply with the license conditions.

Users must give appropriate attribution to the author(s), identify JOSAPEN as the original publication source, provide a link to the license, and indicate whether modifications have been made. Adapted material must be distributed under the same or a compatible license, as permitted by the original license.

The reuse of third-party content included in an article may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions. Users are responsible for determining whether additional permissions are required for their intended use.

6. Co-Authorship and Authorization

For manuscripts written by multiple authors, all authors share responsibility for ensuring that the copyright and licensing arrangements are understood and accepted.

The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that all co-authors:

  • Have approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission to JOSAPEN.

  • Understand that copyright ownership remains with the authors.

  • Agree to the publication rights granted to JOSAPEN and the application of the CC BY-SA 4.0 license to the published article.

  • Have been informed of the journal's copyright, licensing, and publication policies.

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact for copyright and licensing matters during the editorial process. However, this administrative arrangement does not remove the responsibilities of individual co-authors.

Any dispute concerning authorship, copyright ownership, or authorization must be addressed by the parties involved. JOSAPEN may request written confirmation or supporting documentation and may suspend the publication process while a material dispute is investigated or resolved.

7. Third-Party Materials and Permissions

Authors must identify and properly acknowledge all material in their manuscripts that is owned by third parties. Where permission is required, authors must obtain it from the relevant rights holder before publication and provide evidence of permission when requested by the editorial office.

Third-party material included in a JOSAPEN article is not automatically covered by the article's Creative Commons license if the relevant rights are not owned or controlled by the authors or otherwise licensed for that purpose.

Where applicable, authors must clearly identify excluded material and provide the relevant copyright notices, attribution statements, or separate license terms.

Authors should ensure that any datasets, software, images, or other supplementary materials submitted with their manuscripts may lawfully be published and distributed under the proposed terms.

8. Royalties and Publication Fees

JOSAPEN does not pay royalties to authors for the publication or distribution of accepted articles. By publishing under an open-access model, authors agree that readers may access and reuse their articles in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license without paying royalties to the authors or the journal for uses authorized by that license.

Any article processing charges or other publication-related fees, if applicable, are governed by JOSAPEN's separate publication fee policy. The absence of author royalties does not, by itself, determine whether publication fees apply.

9. Editorial and Production Rights

JOSAPEN reserves the right to undertake editorial and production work necessary to prepare accepted manuscripts for publication. Such work may include copyediting, proofreading, formatting, reference-style corrections, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and other changes intended to improve clarity, consistency, and compliance with the journal's style requirements.

Substantive changes that may affect the meaning, interpretation, data, results, or conclusions of an article will be referred to the authors for review and approval, where appropriate.

Authors remain responsible for reviewing the final proof of their articles and notifying the editorial office of any significant errors before publication. Editorial corrections must not compromise the scientific integrity of the work.

10. Corrections, Retractions, and Copyright Concerns

If a published article is found to contain significant errors, copyright violations, unauthorized material, or other concerns affecting its integrity, JOSAPEN will investigate the matter in accordance with its publication ethics and correction policies.

Depending on the findings, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other appropriate notice. Where necessary, the journal may temporarily restrict access to an article while a serious legal or ethical concern is investigated, subject to applicable obligations and procedures.

Retraction or withdrawal of an article does not automatically extinguish the rights previously granted to users under an applicable Creative Commons license. Any action concerning copyright ownership or licensing will be handled in accordance with the license terms and applicable law.

11. Policy Acceptance and Effective Application

Submission of a manuscript to JOSAPEN constitutes the authors' acknowledgment of this Copyright and License Policy. Authors are expected to review the policy before submission and ensure that all co-authors understand and agree to its terms.

The policy applies to manuscripts accepted and published by JOSAPEN, subject to the applicable publication agreement, license, and any specific terms communicated by the journal.

JOSAPEN may update this policy when necessary to reflect changes in publication practices, licensing standards, applicable law, or scholarly publishing ethics. Any updated policy will be made available on the journal's official website.
